GROSS/10 1922 PREVIEW - finally some Robin Hood - and a poll

The next film I'm watching is the 1922 Douglas Fairbanks Robin Hood

This Robin Hood - the full title is ‘Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood’, for Douglas Fairbanks is not only the star of this film but also its producer and a co-owner of the company that distribited it - was the top-grossing film of 1922. It wasn’t the first film adaptation, though, not by a long way, but it was the first full-length feature. This week it’ll be my Saturday morning treat.

Since this one, of course, there have been dozens more Robin Hoods, including plenty of animated ones and musical ones and comedy ones, alongside the camp ones and the dramatic ones and the romantic ones - but which of the most famous Robins was the best?

There’s a decent restoration on YouTube, although it has the cheesiest Casio MIDI soundtrack you’ve ever heard. Suggest you mute it and put Korngold’s gorgeous score for the 1938 movie on instead.
